A few weeks ago I mentioned in a blog post that I had "A Humbling Experience" to tell you about. I thought I would be blogging about it much sooner than now, but until now I haven't felt like I've had the time to devote to a blog post that would do this experience justice. So...today is the day that I get to tell you about one of the most remarkable experiences I've had as a photographer. A friend of mine, Liz...(who incidentally rocks the design and custom wedding announcements world! :o)...check her stuff out here...invited me to be a part of a project that she is helping put together for Teen Challenge of Arizona's Home of Hope, which is a home for women, young moms, and their children. I was asked to take photos that documented a typical day at the Home of Hope to be used for their promotional materials...and...to be used for another unbelievable...very special purpose that I am astonished to be a part of and that I will reveal at a later date...I'd like to wait until it's completed so I can show the final product. :o)
The first thing that I got to photograph that morning were the children...babies, toddlers, and preschool aged. I didn't expect it to be hard to be there...but, it was. Especially in the preschool and toddler rooms. When you see these kids...who are so incredibly happy...and so content with life...yet, you have an idea of some of what they've been through...it's just very humbling. This was the very first shot of the morning...and I was blown away by just how profound it was...

My heart just ached for these little ones who have been through such difficult circumstances at such young ages...but, what a wonderful hope they have now that they have been given a safe environment and their moms are working hard to get their lives in order...and completely trusting God for the changes. So, what started out for me as an emotionally sad day very quickly turned to a day filled with awe at what God is doing in the lives of these ladies and I left there at the end of the day feeling like I had witnessed "HOPE" in a very "real" way.
So..These are just some of the images of the kids...although there are so many of the women too, my heart was just given over to these adorable kids who reminded me that I take so very much for granted. I just see so much joy in their precious eyes...when the world would tell them that they have very little to be joyful about. That's humbling indeed.
This is another one of that sweet sleeping boy and his beautiful mom. She is very blessed to be able to work in the nursery so she is able to be with him throughout the day.

This little guy was just a total hoot. He was so funny and so much fun...I don't think I saw him once throughout the day without a big smile on his face.

And here he is with his brother and sister. He was so excited to gather them together for a shot with all of them. While I was getting shots of other kids he just followed me from one spot to the next with his arms around them saying, "Get us! Get us!"

This little guy was also so much fun...he was full of spunk and had some of the bluest eyes...EVER...he also seemed to adore his mom...hung on her every word when she would be chatting with him.

This little cutie was also a little ham...she had all sorts of posing ideas for me and kept wanting to see her pictures on my LCD screen. She was especially pleased with this one. :o)

These adorable girlies are twins...and their mom is expecting a baby any time now! :o) They were so much fun because they also had lots of ideas for what they wanted their pictures to look like. It's so cute...like little mini photographers in the making!

And the last one I'll post of the kids...was this adorable little girl...and her sweet mom. Big sister was not feeling well...and this little one was very tired...so they were all just so snuggly together on mom's bed reading a story. It was so incredible to see how precious these little ones were to their moms. The moms were all so patient and gentle with their kids...it was very inspiring to me to see so much genuine sweet spiritedness between the moms and their little ones. This sweet girl's eyes...and her big sister's eyes...were just so beautiful. When I look at this photo I feel like I can see into her soul...isn't God amazing that he created our eyes to reveal soooo much about who we are...

Well...that's all I have to share for now...
